- Apple's computers up through the 1979 Apple II Plus did not have a command key. The first model on which it appeared was the 1980 Apple III, where there are two monochrome Apple keys, both to the left of the space bar on the lowest row of the keyboard.
- Every command is made up of three elements: the command itself, an argument which tells the command what resource it should operate on, and an option that modifies the output. So, for example, to move a file from one folder to another on your Mac, you’d use the move command 'mv' and then type the location of the file you want to move, including the file name and the location where you want to move it to.

A command line prompt is a way of interacting with your computer without a graphical interface. While your modern Mac uses a graphical user interface, (GUI) older computers used only command prompts. The command line usually gives you more options than the GUI. Modern Macs running OS X use a UNIX foundation which you can access through the Terminal application.

Cmd + Shift + 4 is very helpful in some of the things I do but there are a few changes I'd like to make if they are at all possible.
The first of these is to save out the screen capture with extension visible.
when i take screen captures the files have extensions visible. you have to go into the finder prefs>advanced and check off 'show all extensions'.
The second is to access some onscreen way to capture sections with pixel perfect accuracy. I suppose that one way to do so is to have an X, Y, W and H value displayed onscreen during capture. The values displayed at mouse pointer are helpful - perhaps a more accurate way is to incorporate numerical parameters as well?
when you hit Cmd Shift4 the X & Y values are displayed. if you want to capture something more accurate like a window then hit the space bar after you hit Cmd Shift4 and then click on the window you want captured.
